I've been looking through this long thread, and learned that the dime I posted isn't a true "lowball" since it's obviously environmentally damaged. Oh well. Before today, I'd never even heard the term "lowball."
Back before I sold all my "good" coins in 1982 (i.e., everything silver and/or pre-1930), I had a number of real lowballs. It was common for me to look through the bargain bin for anything I found interesting, regardless of its condition. But I never had (or wanted) any coin that I couldn't positively identify, including any with a date that was no longer readable.
