I ordered my 2016 uncirculated set from the Mint a few days ago and should have them in my mailbox in the next four days.

PS: I SHOULD mention that I ordered from the RC Mint and not the US Mint.
I haven't looked lately, but I don't think I can get any sets from the US Mint until late February.

Someone on another forum reported that they had received 2 solid boxes of 2016 cents on 1/14/16.

I sure hope this isn't a preface to another GreatRecession2 ©™®

We don't need no myinstafacespacepagetagbookgram©™® trend drive silver back up.

Hipster go out and buy limited edition Kanye shoes.

I'll keep my silver.

Yes, that is where that roll came from actually. ebay is my best chance of getting a roll of D's here in Ohio. Now I just need to get a roll of P's. Thinking I should do another P+D giveaway this year...

Let me get this straight: You paid $30 + shipping for coins that will be worth $5 in a couple of months?

I thought he was going to say something like... who would pay for that.

Unless you are paying bulk rates and slabbing every coin as a first strike, why not just got to every bank in town for an hour and see which ones have the pennies you want for face value?

With the money you lose you could buy a whole box of bank wrapped cents to look for 2016s, and get some wheats and copper as a bonus. However, I can also see why you would buy them just for posterity's sake- you can tell your grandkids about how you got them at the very beginning of 2016 and they were some of the first to leave the mint, even if they aren't certified as such.

got my 2016 up here near Syracuse from a relative that brings coins over each month instead of taking them to the bank - got only 1 2016 in 3 dollars worth - was kinda dirty when I got it - had to clean it up for the pic

I bought them because I wanted to have them first, if I keep them in rolls, my grandkids could sell them for thousands in about 100 years, imagine a full roll of BU 1956 cents, wouldn't that be worth a lot of money?

I'm not sure I would count on thousands - 1956 BU rolls go for $10-15 on ebay for example.

But I think you can make a case for buying them though if you don't have another means to get them and/or don't want to bun gas and time trying to get them locally. Collectors pay premiums for coins all the time so this is just another example to me.

Sorry, but in 100 years these are unlikely to be worth much. Unlike a hundred years ago, the mint now produces many billions of cents annually so there will likely be a huge supply for many decades, mostly BU since they don't circulate much. Anyway, they'll still be subject to zinc rot.

If I were you, I'd just wait until BU boxes start coming. However, I suppose you can't get bank boxes in Panama so this may be the best way to do it for you.
