The great thing about large cents is that no matter how garbagey, they always sell at $8 a pop buy-it-now

Don't forget to check the 1847 for an overdate.

There is no overdate in 1847. There are several repunched dates, but no overdate.

Would you explain the difference?: "overdate vs. repunched date". I have an example of such an 1847, though holed and junky. Thanks.

My understanding (I'm no error expert) is that a repunched date occurs when one or more digits in the date were punched into the die again in a slightly different location (the same digit, just slightly different position) and that an overdate occurs when one or more DIFFERENT digits are punched into the die over previously existing digits in the same location.

For instance, if there were an 1851/81 it would be an overdate, because it was originally punched as 1881 and then corrected to 1851, but an example 1847/47 would be a RPD, because it was punched as 1847 both times, but the position of the 4 and 7 digits was shifted on the repunch.

Someone feel free to correct me if this is wrong.

Basically correct except the 1851/81 was not originally punched as 1881. The 1851 logotype (multiple digit punch) was originally punched in upside down then turned over and punched in correctly. The "81" is really an upside down 18.

But basically the distinction is whether the numbers are punched in over the same digits (repunched) or different digits (overdate).

They arrived today!

Not as good as I was hoping, but definitely worth $8 apiece.

Even quicker maths says that I got the whole lot for $56, kept the 1838, and sold the remaining six for a total of $98 before fees. Basically I got a free large cent and $42.
