Big and little sister coins (1906-S Barber half and dime), survivors of the earthquake and fire that ravaged San Francisco in April 1906.   The mint building, known as the Granite Lady, was one of the few buildings to survive even though the heat melted the glass windows and damaged the sandstone and granite facade. It's amazing that this event didn't affect coin production in 1906 or subsequent years.
