Someone has to make a profit; otherwise, there would be no coin dealers or no RCM, thus .... no coins made.

It is called "capitalism".

I think they are at least lowering mintages of many coins, but if the price for a typical 1 oz NCLT was in the $60-130 range, they would draw in more collectors and keep the hobby alive. More of the new $3 coin, with $20 for $20 specs should be made. At $20, with 1/4 oz silver, one would assume it must cost them less than $16 to actually make the coin.

I decided not to buy. I asked the question, do I really like this set or is it because of all the hype?Personally, I liked the nickle set better. I keep on asking these questions because it seems rare for numismatics to increase in value and if it does, how long does it last.
I also look at all the coins piling up -where am I going to put this set. Yes, I've recently cut back and stopped speculating a while ago. I really have to be in love with the coin.

The penny set is now available for VIP members at Canadian Coin & Currency. They have 10 units as of now. Here is the picture of it and the other new releases.

With benefit of hindsight, since the 5oz. penny does sell at well over issue although infrequently, I would choose this coin

Speak of the devil...The Coin Shoppe just listed the 5oz penny at $769.95

Looks like some prefer the 2017 Penny Set over the 2012 5oz coin.

I'm not sure which one I prefer. I like them both, and can't compare. They're both stunning.

Maybe we'll be seeing a few more 5oz coins on ebay soon.

I bought the whole farewell to the penny set assuming it was going to be many years if it ever made an appearance again. With the mint pumping out 6 pennies since the farewell, it makes me wonder if now is the time to strike if I'm going to sell my set. 6 new pennies in less than 5 years is enough for me. But I have a very strong feeling we will be seeing rolls of pennies being sold by the mint in the next few years. And people will pay a huge mark up to buy them, just like the 50 cent piece.
If a roll of pennies was offered in 2017 at $5, how many people would buy one?
I probably would, simply because it's only $5 but I know it would be a silly investment.
Or what else could they come out with? Perhaps some copper plated silver coins? Or copper over gold?

As to comparing the 2012 set and the 2017 set, I think I like the new one better but not for the price. I just like that the large cents are larger than the small cents. But they are still not the original sizes.
I'd much rather have seen a blend of both sets - pink gold plating over original sizes, With original size large cents.

There is a difference between non-circulated and circulated coin.

Circulation 50c have never been withdrawn, the BofC just has chosen not to distribute it into the banking network. That's also the reason why the 50c is still included in coin sets, but the penny is not.

I don't think there is anything stopping the mint from selling rolls of pennies in the future. They would simply fall into the NCLT category instead. Much like the silvers.

I do not believe they will bring back rolls of pennies. There are so many being still sold. Look at every coin dealer. Plenty of rolls to go around.

The RCM needs government approval to mint pennies as pennies, that will never happen as for the reasons to stop their production, mainly cost, may produce a gigantic sixe copper penny

I am still amazed that the USA has not gotten rid of the penny as well.
