Agreed, highly unlikely. HH limits have never stopped them from getting a product if they really wanted it.

For those who've been collecting a while, has there ever been a coin/medal released with little interest only to end up becoming desirable later on?

A few come to mind:

- The four 1996 Atlantic Olympics silver dollars in uncirculated. The mintages were: Tennis - 15,983, Paralympics - 14,497, Rowing - 16,258 and High Jump - 15,697. They each once sold for $300 or better in the secondary market. They've certainly come down from their market highs, but they are still among the modern silver dollars with the highest numismatic premium.

- The 1997 Jackie Robinson gold half eagle ($5.00) in uncirculated. Just 5,174 coins were sold at the time, but it later went on to become one of the most sought after coins in the modern series with a market value exceeding $4,500.

- The 2011 US Army half dollar in uncirculated regularly sells today at a good premium vs. its issue price, but its unit sales total back in 2011 did not come close to that of the available mintage.

Interesting....all different coin types. Funny to think how some, for whatever reason, become much more desirable after the fact.

The key though being they're all coins. I can't think of a single modern US medal where that happened

Oh well, So much for an early sell-out!!! Love this set!!! Once the HH Limit was removed, I thought it was over, Knowing the television coin sellers could buy the balance.......

If they really wanted the product they would have gotten it before the HH limit was removed. The HH limit has never stopped the big boys from getting a product, it only makes it more expensive in the aftermarket from them if they have to pay a profit to a middle man in the process.

I think with day one sales coming back at under 17,000 meant that over 60% of the mintage was still available...translates to very little (extremely little) interest.

I haven't seen my sets yet so I reserve opinion as to whether I will like the sets or not.

Still good for medal collectors but not a product that will retain or gain in value. Product was priced more as a coin than a medal and it shows.

The Week 1 sales volume should be available as part of the US Mint sales report that is published tomorrow (Tuesday).
