Did anyone else find it odd that Bromberg had raw coins of the 1927 forgotten designs? He said they didn't have the packaging yet - ie. the capsules and clamshell.

Why would he have samples before the Mint has produced the finished item....Commissioned?

Bromberg stated that the Mint allowed him to have samples of the 1927 Forgotten Designs for the show and that he had no certificates or capsules for the three coins. I believe you may be right about this set being commissioned for sure:)))))

I wonder if the MC members will get the advance on these items prior to the june 30th show.

Given that advance notice is given 1 week before the general public release for each month, we will get the advance notice either June 25 or 26 for the July release.

No doubt.

Actually, the guy, or their department does listen to the customers / collectors.

Didn't we say, that it would be nice have some circulation coins in the large format? And here, we starting to have the Big Coins series, including 1967 patterns.
Didn't we say, that 'not-minted' designs have to see the world as NCLT? And now we have these patterns.

I am against overflooding the market, but these commissioned coins are better (imo) than pop-culture coins...and other, sorry, non-related to the coins junk themes.

I don't like the commissioned coins at all because they create artificial sell outs. They sell out quickly at the RCM but the company commissioning them retain large inventories which impacts the prices on the secondary market.

I guess we will see in a few week but it wouldn't be the first time advance notice was not given to MC members. The most glaring example I can think of off the top of my head was the 2013 Superman. We were told the coin existed and to watch for it's release, but it was not offered as an advance notice or advance order for MC members. We were able to order at the same time as the general public as the Mint cited 'licencing agreements'.

There have been a few other too but usually on high mintage or unlimited mintage coins. At the same time, if Bromberg is promoting it 8 weeks in advance, it will certainly be a dud. lol

@Silveroid, Not sure who the 'we' is that asked for big formats of the circulation coins but I didn't. Haven't bought any either other than the commemorative SD dollar MC exclusives. Not prepared to give commissioned coins any praise either. If the idea came from outside the Mint fine, but commissioning and manipulating the market should not be lauded IMO.

CC-Ottawa, I agree with your comment regarding commissioning NCLT.

Couple of years ago in some post, where we (people here) wrote, what do we wanted to see on NCLT, I wished the "Circulation Coins in 1oz format new and shiny".

Didn't ask for variety of "Tribute to Nickel" or various expensive 5oz's....

the mint will never say no to any commissioned coin(s),, I believe the person who commissions them is entitled to 60% + of the allotment..so I quick sell out is guaranteed.. for example all of the bison series, the deer series, the bald eagle series, these were all commissioned coins and sold out quickly.. but now available for near half issue price..so it all about the $$$$...we are just waking up to this fact recently..so be prepared for more of the same stuff..

I picked up my Star Trek "5 Captains" from CAC -- now sold out like RCM -- and was pleasantly surprised to find that the maple leaf micro-pattern found on the 2017 DD Proof Set's silver dollar reverse (L) is also on the "5 Captains" obverse (R)
