Quote: They were the greatest generation! Oh ABSOLUTELY - can you imagine people that need to cry in Lego rooms with coloring books wearing Man buns even wanting to leave their parents basements?

I believe this is the item most directly related to war, and thus the soldiers lost, that I own. It's simple and common, but it tells a story of just how much life on the planet changed for everyone during (and after) World War II: Both of my grandfathers served in WWII, but I regret that I was not old enough to appreciate any stories they may have told before they passed. They probably never spoke of it. They were very different from each other, but I admire them both. The eldest was 20 years old when the attack on Pearl Harbor took place. He came out of the war an AF Captain and went on to serve as a teacher and counselor. The younger of the two was 19 when the war ended, but went on to serve in Korea and afterward, and also as a firefighter for years post-military. Sacrificing their lives for the country as soldiers was not enough, so they went on to serve at home in other very important roles afterwards. That's got "Greatest Generation" written all over it!

I will add that I graduated High School with a man who gave all for our country. I only found out because of being back in my hometown and seeing the sign showing the new name of the overpass/bridge. I certainly remember Kyle, although I can't say I had too much interaction with him. Here's the story: http://txktoday.com/news/rememberin...years-later/

Quote: I have a Memphis Belle Token in my safe but haven't had time to find it just yet! Will look tomorrow. Look forward to seeing that Mark. That was an interesting video. When I was a young kid growing up, I do remember my dad talking about the war, only when I would ask him a specific question. I knew he was in the USAAC and flew. He would sometimes refer to his buddies (crew) and his ship. He would say "ship" in this sentence and use "ship" in that sentence. I said dad, what do you mean "ship"? You flew during the war, right? I was amazed to learn as a little kid that "ship" referred to his plane!

Civil War US Marines Although not military, many of our law enforcement (and fireman) died serving the people of our communities and country. They should be remembered and honored too. (This image will update in a better form in the near future)

Here is a token that celebrated VE and VJ day:

Here is a token that I picked up on the USS Midway (CVB 41) some time ago. The starburst of lights are my fault for being unable to take decent pics through the shiny plastic case, but the ugly stains on the rev are part of this token. Commissioned just after WWII ended, this aircraft carrier saw duty in both Vietnam and Operation Desert Storm.

What makes these unique is that they are actual World War II issued and the first US numismatic item to depict the attack on Pearl Harbor. Check out the period article links at my NGC custom registry set https://coins.www.collectors-societ...aspx?s=12054 Cataloged in Hawaiian Money Standard Catalog, 2nd Edition.
