Well I hope you are right. The "blurry" pics bother me. But you can send it back, so no problem. Keep us up to date!

As long as the PCI slab has not been opened, you will be OK. Please post pictures of the S VDB .....IN the slab. I would not remove from slab at this point. Interesting that you took a $250 "gamble". I just completed close to the same "gamble" on an AU 1914 D Lincoln Cent (environmental damage). My purchase was raw. Your purchase is in a PCI holder - you did well!!

I'm hopeful for you ... indeed let us know how it turns out once the coin is in hand and your return from Alaska!

Quote: Even if legit, the price clearly reflects the ED and may not be quite the bargain it seems. That's true. Especially if it's severely damaged, then the price would seem reasonable.

Quote: I will try contacting PCI and see if they still have records of the coin. Considering they have been through four or five owners since then (and at least one or two of them being on the shady side), I wouldn't keep my hopes up.

So that brings me back to my last point. Is it worth sending it to PCGS? Not sure what it'll cost. But maybe the grade changes too? Probably for the worse, but either way.

IMHO, no. No need to send to PCGS.
If you are planning to sell, I would consider having your coin slabbed by ANACS, NGC, or PCGS. The price level of this coin, does not warranty spending the money unless you are going to flip it.

ANACS offers the best price for something like this. But show us some good pics before making a choice.

I would send it in, but I'd probably send it to ANACS, unless either you already have a membership with NGC/PCGS, or you have a local coin dealer that you could submit through to them. ANACS is less expensive, will carry better respect then it's current slab, and they are good for authentication, which is what you want to ensure with this coin. Also, ANACS has a $75 summer special going on right now (that's for 5 coins), which is great.

Here are the close ups!! Finally back from vacation and I have the coin in my possession. See pictures below. Looks authentic to me after all my checks. PCI grade of F-12 with Environmental Damage. Its the 'damage' I cant seem to spot. There are a few blemishes I suppose. Here are the close ups. I will have my local coin guy check it out on Wednesday after the holiday weekend.
