Hello, I recently went to a coin dealer shop and they were selling these new $10 bills for $13 or so. I could comprehend paying $3 more for a item that comes marked with what it is actually worth. I looked into the matter and sure enough I found that you can pick these bill up at your local Bank for face value. I quickly placed them in plastic holders and are keeping them for possible future gifts or re sale. A quick search on ebay, shows some of these bills selling for $15 USD ungraded. I was thinking of getting a few graded for my collection and resale. Do you think this is a wise investment or strategy to possible re sell in the future. Are these notes even considered prized or rare. If so what company would you use to grade. I was thinking PCGS, but do they grade polymer notes. |

The convenience of buying from a dealer or ebay justifies the modest additional cost but I agree, if you are near a bank, just pick some up. Specific serial numbers are about the only way these will ever be 'worth' more than FV IMO.

I got a gorgeous one in change.....but they are ALL spenders unless the serial number is 'cool." as CC, mentioned, 40 Mill is a lot. (The govt' loves unused stamps and bills held in collections, as that's a long term loan to the Gov't)

I imagine most banks have ran out of the new bills by now. It first came out in June and some banks were limiting the number you can get. sellers on ebay and dealers have been hoarding the bills. Lots of consecutive numbers around. |

In case you think it is worth getting these bills graded, you might think about this listing. There are 309 2012s graded PCGS MS67 vs 1 for 2011. These are for sale all the time and they typically sell for less than the cost of the holder. http://www.ebay.ca/itm/2012-CANADA-...AOSwrklVBLFf |

Yup, thanks for the input. I think the grading can always be done later if the notes become valuable. I'll have to keep them safe and secure in my own holders.
But for future references does anyone know if grading polymer notes is a issue for the known grading authorities. I only see them graded by basement companies.

As stated before these notes will never be rare, do not grade unless you found a solid # or a fancy# like 123456 or 1000000

Do not buy these notes at a premium, I see that you are in Canada, so go to a bank and ask nicely for the new 2017 $10 notes. I got 50 of them this way, all uncirculated new banknotes.

These notes are plentiful though a hassle to obtain from banks (long line-ups, multiple visits to different tellers, etc) one doesn't have an account with if you want large quantities. That said CDA-CDC likely for the most have been distributed so the fun is getting the remaining two or three prefixes which may not receive the same treatment as the first notes. Most of the current notes are being dumped in cash machines so they may exhibit some slight signs of handling. Quote:

The first few weeks they would limit how many they gave out. Now even the bank machines are giving them out.

Prefixes CDD & CDE are out now with very few banks carrying the earlier ones.
Lots of collectors are doing trades so don't pay a premium if it's one you're missing. Just get 5-10 notes from almost any bank branch and you're bound to find someone at a club meeting/show looking for the ones you have.
My goal was to set aside 2 of each of all the prefixes which I accomplished. Now just waiting for the CDF notes to pop up.

If you really want these bills, the best thing to do in my opinion is to take that extra step and look for good serial numbers, as suggested. Having a radar/repeater/etc. will give you the same aesthetic value as keeping a random note, but you won't have to feel so bad about the inflation too much.
