The "counterfeit" comments are only because these notes are rarely (if ever) seen in circulation these days. Not many folks outside of the hobby know they exist so will automatically be suspicious. Think of all the "counterfeit" $2 note horror stories....
The bank will take them and send them off to the shredder. They are definitely worth saving from the shredder, and will provide you with a profit anytime you want to sell.
