i posted this one in the classic coin forum a bit ago. just saw this thread and thought I could add this coin here too this is my 1798 draped bust large cent. S-145 die marriage with a double struck error. this coin has a reeded edge which is rather scarce for 1798 cents and indicates that it was struck from the shipment of Coltman blanks delivered to the mint in 1797. the "reeded" edge on this coin is a bit different from what you would see on silver at the time, or things like the reeded edge 1795 large cent (s-79). most edge treatments are either struck into the coin using a collar or applied prestrike using an upsetting mill (or castaing maching). these marks were applied by the manufacturer of the blank (Coltman) before it was delivered to the mint. this is similar to the "gripped edge" from 1797. there are a number of edge treatments in 1797 and 1798 which are attributed to the blanks being sourced from a variety of manufacturers. no idea what the count is. I'm doubtful that the image is complete on this coin. here are some pictures. the "reeding" are those diagonal lines cut into the edge. research into the edge treatments is woefully incomplete.
