Maybe I'm wrong but I don't believe any circulating commemorative coins were struck in the US prior to 1976? That is, excluding 'commemorative' type coins that eventually became normal circulating types (1909 Lincoln Cent, 1932 Washington quarter, etc.) (OK, maybe except the 1848 'CAL.' quarter eagle). That is, unless we consider the 1892 Columbian half and the like as circulating, but I don't think we should even though they ended up in circulation, as they originally were not intended to.

A think an occasional "this is what is coming up" post is a good idea, unless we want to put an actual schedule into the OP. I am not opposed to the latter, I just do not have time to create it. If someone wants to post a schedule, I can move it into the OP.

I guess I just always assumed that the commemorative halves were for circulation since I see circulated examples along with MS when I have looked on ebay in the past.

They were not intended to circulate and sold for a premium. However, sometimes they ended up in circulation when the did not sell out or people who acquired them did not realize what they had.

Nice. Waiting for 1964 nickels. @jbuck, maybe we should allow the two (or three or more) different-mintmarked coins of the same year and denomination be posted at once by the same person.

That would be acceptable. It is also acceptable for a person to post back-to-back if no one else has posted after a period of time. Maybe an hour, but a day for sure.
