Thanks for the additional pics!

My thoughts remain the same but, what now? Is it submission worthy? I'll bow to the more experienced folk.

Thanks for the extra pics. I would like to see what coop has to say on this one because I am still on the fence. The added pics look a little bit "coppery" to me.

This really looks to me like it is probably a non-plated cent. (by the way give that cent a quick rinse in acetone right away. The way you were holding it to show the edge picture you have left fingerprints on the surface that will wind up etching the surfaces and causing discoloration.)

Seems to be a cent struck on an non plated planchet.

Agree finger prints could be a future concern if not addressed now. Currently seems to have a nice surface sheen, which may or may not be affected. Not just by yours, but I'm thinking who ever turned it in as change probably was not wearing gloves or handling by the edge either.

Read up on pure acetone use. That's what I'd use, but by strict guide lines that would ensure not to introduce other contaminants. Thanks, Doug.

To me it is too shiny to be an un-plated planchette. It looks plated like a re-processed steel cent. I'll post one here later. Just doesn't look right to be an error.

Must agree. This date has shown up more than once lately with the same issue.

If this were to be sent for grading and was determined to be legit, it would be labeled as "Unplated".

Yes, it isn't correct but that is how they would label it.

Thanks for your reply and I thought the same. It seems someone out there had a reason to electroplate a bunch of 1990 cents.

From a different forum and someone else's coins but this is a certification from an unplated zinc cent. ANACS first then NGC after.

Stripped planchets look dull because they lose that strike luster from the surface copper that's stripped away after the strike.
Depending on how professionally plated the coin is it could look mushy or sharp, but the surface doesn't reflect as a struck coin should it doesn't cartwheel, it doesn't have that flow lines of the strike movement of the planchet. It's more like mirror reflectivity I guess is what I'm trying to say if it's been plated even professionally.

That first coin on this thread has me intrigued. ANACS absolutely has seen at least one like that, so that would probably be the best bet at getting it authenticated if there's uncertainty, and ANACS is the cheapest also.
I've seen stripped coins and I've seen plated coins, however I'm not ready to dismiss every cent thats silver colored as plated unless I can tell for sure 100%.
