Thanks for the company fellers! Thanks for the link too. I have looked at many of those medals and yes, some are very nice. I was lucky to get a seller to re-list one I had passed up earlier, chasing the silver version. I let the bronze proof get by me with no buyers and it ended. The Bronze proof. Mintage 2490  Now I have the complete set of all three of "The Great Mississippi Steamboat Race" The other two arrived today and I am quite impressed.  |

Just picked up this strange historical award medal:   The main info on the award is: The prize may be awarded annually and shall consist of a bronze medal and cash prize determined annually by and subject to the approval of the Executive Committee of the Board of Direction, with the advice of the Governing Board of the Environmental and Water Resources Institute, based on the income from the award fund. The lead author shall receive the medal and cash prize. All other recipients shall receive only a certificate. http://www.asce.org/templates/award....aspx?id=613Jack E McKee won this medal in 1957 for his article titled "Fundamental Concepts of Rectangular Settling Tanks." About 50mm and bronze. |

Also picked up this medal that I have no information about. Bronze, 47.5mm by 64.3mm. Picked it up to flip it. Looks really nice, but not in my collecting preferences.   |

Not a new purchase, but one of my favorite medals I own. Mid-Pacific Aloha Carnival in Honolulu So-Called Dollar. The obverse shows the father of modern surfing, Duke Kahanamoku.   |

A bit excited to get this one. I do not see them for sale.  Mount Vernon was the plantation house of George Washington, the first President of the United States, and his wife, Martha Dandridge Custis Washington. The estate is situated on the banks of the Potomac River in Fairfax County, Virginia, near Alexandria, across from Prince George's County, Maryland. The Washington family had owned land in the area since the time of Washington's great-grandfather in 1674. In 1739 they embarked on an expansion of the estate that continued under George Washington, who came into possession of the estate in 1754, but did not become its sole owner until 1761. The mansion is built of wood in a loose Palladian style, and was constructed by George Washington in stages between 1758 and 1778.  |

Griffin the medal you don't know anything about is related to WWI and the Battle of Verdun. The obverse depicts Marianne as a soldier. Marianne is the French Lady Liberty. The reverse features a poilu or infantryman with a sword and flag. The artist who designed this medal was Georges-Henri Prud'Homme. The medal was struck by the Monnaie de Paris. Due to the subject I remembered the Art of Devastation which catalogs medals associated with WWI. http://numismatics.org/aod/id/6185.161821.5Edited by MeadowviewCollector
