He also submitted the design for the Canadian Dollar around the same year.

I have the one from Canada and that was the fisrt thing I notice. I knew it had to be the same designer.

Yes gxseries, I bought this off Klaus Ford at the Brissy coin show a couple of years ago, saw the gold one too, nice wasn't it.

Latman100, I'll have to dig mine out and have another look.

Here is tiddyathomes '67 Canadian goose dollar for comparison. Thanks for the pic tiddy. You can really see the similarities, guess if you don't get your design used somewhere, you try somewhere else.

Might look at getting one of these.

Just out of curiosity, I looked up the designer for the Canadian goose dollar--Alex Colville. This is just my take, but other than a profile goose/swan design, the styling is quite different to my eyes. I do like the Australian commemorative a lot!

Kurt, as usual, I have jumped the gun. I thought they were the same artist. The mind sees what it wants to see.

Yesterday I bought the Canadian $1. Now I guess I will have to put together a collection of all coins with geese on them. Or birds. Sigh. Maybe everything that flies?

I paid 85 Euro. Which I think was about $140-150 back then. So if it was a fake, at least it wasn't going to make me cry. The sad part is, I am now 100% convinced it is real, I could have had two for well under the price of one.

The happy part is, I got one for well, well under the price of one :)

Zaggy, I have been collecting for about 20 years now, and that is probably the best deal I have ever got. More because the seller didn't know what they were worth, not because of my bargaining skills.

Wow, I found an advertisement on the Australian coin review issue, December 1967, Vol 4 No. 6 and the advertisement goes like this:

Australian Unofficial crown

As announced in the November Coin Review Andor Meszaros' winning 'Crown' design has now been struck in London. Limited strikings only will be made and we are fortunate enough to have secured supplies.

Brilliant Uncirculated 'Crowns', milled edge in presentation case (includes postage) $10.35 (!!)
Brilliant Proof 'Crowns', plain edge in presentation case (includes postage) $13.85 (!!)

I wish I didn't dig it out. I was looking for something else instead.

That is the wonderful thing about hindsight. It is always 20/20.

Should probably point out that this only became my best deal because of this forum. If I hadn't posted here and received the help I have, I would still be doubting this coin.

So thank you everyone.
