Sorry for the delay in getting back to this thread. Quote: Got this in today's mail. Thanks to Crazyb0 and Lionel90! Looking great jbuck is correct - the Barber coin is a contemporary counterfeit, meaning it circulated in the same time period as the real thing did. It was not made to deceive coin collectors, but was produced to use in circulation years ago. They are actually collectible now and have value which depends on the rarity of the variety.

Can anyone say more about value of this coun. Barber or it's better to create new thread for it? Google don't helping me with it. It's selling for 7$ there.

I am not an expert on contemporary counterfeits. Start a new thread in the US Classic Coins section and someone will reply.

Few days ago I was promising to tell you my ultimate method to make copper/bronze coins naturally solid tarnished. I didn't find any mentions about this in english internet. In russian internet this method isn't very popular too, I noticed there's only a few mentions about it. Usually folks here using sulfur ointment that makes very bad and light tarnish. So, this time I was making it with 1910s penny, that had acid cleaning (or alkali) and now shines. Before (seller's photos):

So, how I'm doing this: Take a glass jar with tight cover, pour out some (20-30ml is enough) smelling salts (ammonia inhalants, spirit of hartshorn or sal volatile) - do you have it in US drug stores? Coin in a clamp, clamp to a string, all in a jar. Notice - if ammonia will touch a coin it will be very bad. Aware of it. Second step - wait and watch. Don't heat up jar or put it in sunlight to prevent sedimentation of ammonia on a coin. This can make it green. I'm talking about sweating, don't now if I use correct word. In 1-2 hours your coin will be tarnished to very natural solid color. If you want to make it darker, make process longer. If you have any questions feel free to ask me. And if you think I'm not coin killer a can share this method in separate thread. Now I have pink IHC in my jar, I will show it later :) This is the most natural color that coins could get in years, but had in 2 hours.

I really hope this info will help you to reanimate your pink and shiny copper/bronze coins. And now IHC. Before (seller's photos) it had ugly pink color.

Now. Insane difference, huh? That case illustrates a common mistake - before jar procedures that coin was improperly cleaned and had remains of dark gunk, turned into that green things. It's not dead end. Acetone + toothpicks and it's done. But it's not a problem anyway because we just turned pink coins into dark brown (photo don't give the right perception of color).
