Thanks guys! I'm super excited! I'm going to have to ask my self a very tough question though when I receive it. Should I take it out of the slab, and put him with his friends in the Dansco? Or should I keep it slabbed? It's NGC graded.

Free it from the chains that bind it! Move it into the friendly confines of the Dansco album so it can be amongst friends! Edit to add this: take some really good photos of it in the slab, noting distinguishing marks to identify it later in the event you have to sell it.

I don't know about de-slabbing it. That little puppy stays where it is, if it were mine. I can put a little note in my Dansco - hey! I got one of those, but it's slabbed and stowed away in a safe deposit box somewhere! But I got one! yessir!

Yeah. The "collector" in me wants to put it in the album for completion. After all, a good King mingles with his peasants and subjugates.....right? Why would he want to stay locked up in his castle all day every day?
At the same time, the "investor" in me wants to keep it slabbed. The walls are very solid and may better protect him from vertigri's arrow if it should hunt him. Also, a castled King is more sought out by other nations if he ever felt the need to move. They are more confident in the quality and authenticity of a King if he were to bring his castle to prove his majesticness....as there are many imposters out there who simply put on the crown and pretend to be King!
Ok, this is sad. I haven't even received the coin yet and I'm already personifying it. sheeshh.........

Johnny54321 - Yes, what you're currently experiencing may be a trifle confusing at first. The coin is taking on a persona of its own, and will try to boss you around at first, thinking you are a push-over. When the coin does arrive, be sure to let it know, right off the bat, who is the boss, and who is the copper (or whatever alloy the 1909-S VDB was made of). This in-your-face attitude will go a long way in making your future relationship with Senior Rare Abe a pleasant one, and hopefully an enjoyable one.

Show us your new puppy when he arrives. Walk him around the block a few times!

Yes. I plan to take detailed pics for additional authentication purposes. It is in an NGC slab that doesn't have the characteristics of the known counterfeit slabs; but you can never be too careful with these kind of things. I've been burned once. I'll be looking at it intently for the die chip on the s, slanted b, etc....plus get additional input from this board while I still have my return privelege.

Boy, those are good ideas. I learn a lot on this forum about buying coins. I need to learn more about selling, though. Just sold a 3-cent silver trime for less than I bought it for! Waaaaaa! I would have kept it had I known that!

Quote: The "collector" in me wants... the "investor" in me wants... Ah! IMHO, one should not be both in order to avoid situations like this! If it were mine, it would have to go in the Dansco; the hole would taunt me into submission if I tried to resist.

I see. It is interesting as I originally got back into coins for "investment" purposes. I was buying pre-1933 gold coins in circulated condition at melt value. However, my collecting instincts(they run strong in my family) have started taking control, and I've started putting coins into my Dansco albums; as well as upgrading my lower grade gold coins to higher grades and paying the appropriate premiums. I have busted a few lesser valued coins out of slabs to go into the Dansco, and have merely placed the cert sticker on the album cover. I think I'm turning into more of a collector...which means its quite likely I will remove the lincoln. It probably wont be for a while though; and I will be taking lots of pics as JBuck suggested. I will also be buying a new Dansco for my Lincolns(the old one is wearing out and coins tend to slide out of their holes). That is one thing that I'm concerned about, I would have a heart attack if my vdb slipped out of the hole as I turn the page and started rubbing up against my 09s or something! Anyways, I was looking at some basic value trend data for lower grades, as was suggested earlier. Seems like the 22-plain is leading the pack in lower grades. http://www.us-coin-values-advisor.c...or-sale.htmlHere it is for $3 gold. http://www.us-coin-values-advisor.c...ld-Coin.html

I had to replace the binder on my LHC album, but the pages have held up well. Everyone is still snug in their place. Some of the binders fell victim to the moves I made before settling down.
