AAAAHAHA! Don't worry, that temptress has nothing to offer me.
I guess she could be artificially circulated....but it would surprise me somewhat, as it is a key date in the $3 gold series. Why would someone do that to a coin that would be so much more valuable in better condition? I guess if they were trying to conceal a major flaw it might make some sense.

Thanks. I think this King is nice looking. It seems to have a weak or absent "v". Grease Filled Die?

It could have been the pocket piece of a Civil War officer(enlisted/drafted soldiers probably couldn't afford to carry around $3 just for the heck of it) that was carried into battle repeatedly, just think of the potential history In that time period or even for a few decades afterwards, that coin would not have been seen as a rarity. The Civil War scenario may just be wishful imagination but more than likely for it to obtain that state of wear, it had to be the pocket piece of someone with a relatively high financial standing.

Interesting. That would make sense. Would being used as a "pocket piece" constitute natural, or artificial circulation?

Get the Princess! Think about it; twenty years form now which will be worth more? Gold or Copper?

Maybe you are right speedy, and I was a cats hair away from keeping the coin. If I had more time before I had to send it back, I may have decided to keep it. If I come across this again, I'll give them a call. Here is a nice dark pcgs vdb. Opinions? http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...id=p3907.m29

How about a nice 1877 IHC ? Or a 09-S VDB in VF and the 1914-D.

My opinion is that they need to learn how to take a proper digital photo if they are going to be selling $1000+ coins I would not even consider unless they can come up with some well lit detailed photos.

true.....well I am kind of fond of this one. http://cgi.ebay.com/C-USA-1909-S-VD...2.m153.l1262 Nice big pictures, good color, strongly reputable seller and very little to be concerned with. I might go for it if the price does'nt rise. The boys at C-USA are top notch and are great to work with. Run by an ex-grader, the coins are usually nice for the grade. BTW, I know you said the plastic doesn't matter, but it sure doesn't hurt to have it in the right kind. All my keys have been in pcgs plastic, and they did extremely well for me.
