Nice coin. Most important is that it came from your grandfather and that's special.

The coin value is worth having it graded cleaned or not. Getting it graded would put an end to your question on cleaning. It is a very attractive coin. It does not appear to be cleaned, but there are some fine scratches showing up in your photos that could be from cleaning.

Welcome to the community! It seems like a lot of us here were brought to an interest in coins either actively by grandfathers who collected, or later, when we started going through inherited collections. Anyway, it's a nice coin, and a wonderful piece of history that was passed to you.

I'd be curious to see some experienced folks here give an opinion as to grading of this coin. The devices seem to be pretty well preserved- a little chatter and a small amount of rub on the most raised areas, but the details look pretty sharp to me. But the fields show quite a lot of contact with other coins. Someone suggested it should be sent in to be professionally graded, which made me wonder.

This half is authentic albeit it slightly cleaned.

Heymikep has stated twice that this is the WB-104, WB-8 variety.

What is going on? How come no one can tell that it has been cleaned? It has been cleaned 100%. It has started to re-tone around the edges, however, which may make it market acceptable.

The most important thing, however, is that the coin is from your grandfather. Doesn't matter if it's cleaned or not.

I messed up and split out what looked like a thread hijack.

Was actually a followup. I did not read the comment close enough.

Bobby has recombined the topics into one.
