Hi,
The reason I wrote this article was to help collectors distinguish cleaned coins from un-cleaned coins. Not to start an argument about TPGs. I'm beginning to regret adding the part about TPGs and market acceptable cleaned coins.
Let's try to keep this discussion about the article instead of an argument about TPGs. Thanks.

I'm saying cleaned as the area around stars and eagle and such are different in color, which leads me to believe that it has been altered in some manner.
Do I win what's my prize?

dsfreeworld, I just noticed your post. Sorry for the delay in replying.
It appears that the coin has surfaces that would not be designated as "cleaned." Even if the coin has possibly been cleaned many years ago (can't tell from the pics - would need slightly sharper pics to confirm) it is market acceptable now and would straight grade.

I didn't care about the PCGS grade. They're known to give older coins that are cleaned a straight grade and basically call them market acceptable. I was looking at your original photos.

Over polished coins. Done to make them look better. But to a collector, they are ruined: Best to leave a valuable coin alone. A ruined coin can loose 90% of it value if it is later viewed as a cull coin.

We appreciate the information. The only point I'd make is it's fine when purchasing coins to buy coins graded by ANACS, not just the two you promote. They also have an excellent reputation. But, we all have examples of when the third party grader makes a mistake so always buy the coin, not the holder. Also, Learn to grade because having a raw-ungraded coin is less antiseptic.

Thanks for the pics Coop. Quote: The only point I'd make is it's fine when purchasing coins to buy coins graded by ANACS, not just the two you promote. They also have an excellent reputation I am not affiliated with the two TPGs I "promoted". I mentioned PCGS and NGC as they have the best reputation for grading coins. ANACS and ICG are known as 2nd tier grading services. They do not have the same reputation PCGS and NGC do. IMO, ANACS and ICG are more lenient on grading than PCGS or NGC. Although it's fine to buy coins graded from them, it's just better to be more experienced when buying coins graded from them. Basebal21 might have some input on this.
