New overlays: new format I'm using.
This takes a lot longer to do, but I feel on some dies it is better to show where the devices could meet. But it is something new, so let me know what you think?
For wheat cents:
New-Overlays:-New-Format-I'm-Using
New-Overlays:-New-Format-I'm-Using
New-Overlays:-New-Format-I'm-Using

Bi-centennial Quarter:
New-Overlays:-New-Format-I'm-Using
New-Overlays:-New-Format-I'm-Using
New-Overlays:-New-Format-I'm-Using

Let me know.

Here is a faster way of making them, just not as detailed. Yea or Na?

I love it Coop! I approve of it and it looks like it would be easier to understand. I would say you should go for it.

@coop, I assume that it takes longer because you are now artificially coloring one of the sides. I like it, but with the Bicentennial quarter, the green bleeds a little too much and it is a little hard to tell which side a particular detail comes from until you look more broadly at the whole coin. On the other hand, the Wheat cent has a much more obvious distinction for the overlayed details--I'm not sure if that is just the coloration or something else in your digital processing.

The color is not the issue. I was erasing around the devices. On the second way, it takes a lot less time. But seems to be as good? What do you guys think? Using proof coins makes it a lot faster also.

understanding that it isn't a color issue, I like it better than the green one!

I use color to show the overlay better. The non color version makes it confusing. It just stands out better this way.

Richard, have to agree with Spence, Lime green isn't a good contrast with silver-gray, stay away from the Blue group, (purple, greens including yellow mix) and go more with a red-brown in that color spectrum but dark on light. Otherwise, it is a help to optically highlight this way.

Nice. The color make the obverse and reverse stand out a lot better.

I like coop's second method better -- the added colors are distracting.

Useful tool to investigate ghosting on coins such as British bronze pennies of George V.

I like the red contrast on the copper or bronze coin.

I would try blue as a contrast color on silver coins.

It's an amazing fact (but true) that nearly 20% of the population has some degree of color blindness.

Show a very dark blue next to a black and many people can't tell the difference.
