Quote:...it is amazing to me that some individual would take the time for some unknown reason to do something like that...
...Do you think these kinds of
PMD are intentional or accidental?...
...I'd be interested to see what you think...
Ok -- let's go with intentional, and, I'll give you a good example about 'taking the time:'
What if 'taking the time' not only didn't take away from "your" time, you also get paid while doing it..?
As one of my gigs while going through "that part" of my life, I worked as a lab tec in both the photofinishing and motion picture processing industry/ies (remember film..?) On the mo-pic side I was also the backup chem analyst at one place.. This meant that about six weeks out of every year I covered the real dood's vacation & personal time, which made me the guy no one bothered when the chemistry analyzation lab room door was closed..
It was a really decent lab too, especially when considering how narrow our field focus was.. We had access to several full strength acids (as well as bases) that we cut to various strengths for use as reagents.. Since many of the tests produced noxious fumes we had a really nice laboratory closed hooded vent system with lowerable fume hood sashes.. When the lab door was closed the entire room would be under slight negative pressure, which kept odors & fumes from permeating the rest of the building.. But I digress..
Point being, had I wanted I could have tried all sorts of stuff with lots of things, including coinage, while getting paid.. But I didn't.. Why not..? Because it all would have been of a destructive nature.. I pretty much got over that in Jr. High.. Ermmm, I mean upon graduating college and moving out of Animal House.. Busted.. Sosume..
Defacing a penny isn't quite the same thing as acid etching a monogram into cut crystal.. Still, I can understand how some folks end up enamored by that process.. Just don't lean too far into the rising wisps while gawking out is all..
