So I went in to my local PNC today to pick up a box of halfs that I ordered last week. I have never ordered any halfs from this location before nor do I use this one as a drop. At worse I've picked up a couple penny boxes and dime boxes over the last 30 days. I was advised that they would not be able to order half dollar boxes for me again as it was too much of an expense to the company. But, was told that there were many local coin shops who would love to do business with me...Needless to say I was not too pleased. I"m sure that this has happened to some of you but wonder if this is a trend some of you "old timers" are seeing more of. Thanks for letting me rant.

Sorry to hear about that. Good luck to you on finding a new bank to get coin from.

Try a different branch of the same bank. Usually, that works.

It does cost them money. Most banks are limiting roll/box handling or adding fees to balance their budgets. Remember, banks are a business. They have a bottom line and roll hunters do not serve it well. Just move on to the next branch or bank and enjoy it while you can.

It's all different, depending on the head teller, or local branch policy, if they don't mind moving coin. All my local CU branches will try to charge me for coin, but one that is close to my house incidentally enough will provide me with a $25 box of pennies almost every week. I graciously accept this blessing. Maybe a tip: Ask the head teller, or whoever is in charge if they will order coin for you either weekly or periodically, open an account at that branch. Some say bring treats and crap..

Banks are a business but it may or may not add cost to them when ordering boxes. Around here the banks contract for a certain weight of coins to be delivered each week. It cost them extra if they go over their contract weight. I would look for a different bank. A couple of months ago I had a local branch order a rather large order of dollar coins. They had no problem because it did not put them over their limit. I told them if it went over there limit to just order them later. I actually went back a second time and got the same order a second time. It is all in the relationship with the bank. They have actually ran out of dollar bills and quarters in the past and asked if I would go get some for them. I help them out when I can. Every week I go back into the vault to see if there is any bags of change that I want to look at. I usually take every bag of cents from their coin counter. I also never drop at this bank.

It's all in the plan to go cashless. The last thing banks want to do is handle cash.

Quote: It's all in the plan to go cashless. The last thing banks want to do is handle cash. I think they last thing they want to do is handle people. No physical cash, no people. If everything is electronic there is no need to visit a B&M bank location. They can minimize staff, just let the software handle it. Like I said, enjoy it while you can. CRH is coming to an end whether we like it or not.

BStrauss kind of comes off like an . I know I'm a bit new to the forum but I'm unimpressed with that response.

I'll take your word. I don't know everyone's personalities well here so I'll take it a hazing. Ahh well, back to our regularly scheduled coin viewing! :)

Free CRH is coming to an end whether we like it or not. We'll all be able to search, we're just going to have to pay for the search.

I would have been ok with them requesting a premium and then deciding from that point on, but the flat out no was just a bit frustrating. My new bank is working out fine anyway. Change is good!
