Here are a couple more of Kruger Gray's heraldic designs from the 1927-36 British George V coins - florin and halfcrown:   Until 1927 virtually all British coins had heraldic reverses. Kruger Gray's new threepence and sixpence broke the mould by portraying fairly realistic oak branches and acorns, paving the way for the new farthing, halfpenny and threepence of King George VI showing respectively a wren, the Golden Hinde ship and a thrift plant. But it's only the current coins just released for King Charles III that have broken away altogether from heraldry.
