yes!
today it has rained most of the day and night, and we have winds 25-35mph, gusting to tropical storm-force, so it's a windy, wet mess out there tonight, I doubt i'll find anything, but i'll still check on some places after I get the cats fed.. I'm hoping that tomorrow night yields a handful of coins.. I haven't really been able to conduct a proper coin search the past few nights because of rain, so I'm thinkin' the coins ought to be piling up for me out there.. if/when the rain finally ends and we have a sunny, breezy sunday all the parking lots will dry up and I should be able to resume my usual route at the usual times.

thanks, Hondo. I guess that sentiment may have worked. either that or I'm going to have to say aloud each night before I go out: "i doubt i'll find anything", because I've said that the past three nights and... well... ...i walked right up to that ten point buck, same place I scored the two ones the last two nights. so, two more firsts: 3 consecutive rain nights yielding a soggy FRN and the first lone ten dollar bill I've ever found. astounding. several ppl I know who know I do this call me 'the money magnet'. I dunno about that, but I do know where to look to find it. (edit: I also picked a nickel & two zincolns... $10.07 on this treacherous weather night... king tide + several inches of rain = considerable flooding.. add the extreme winds to that.. not very easy pedaling to the cats, even worse going home... the extra dollars tonight must be hazard pay...)

Nice! People in Key West must not care about there money as they throw a lot of it away.

i wanted to stay out & roll around another hour looking for more, but the wind was making it difficult.. plus there was more standing water than usual, almost certainly some mix of sea water in most of it.. not a fair night for biking.. I picked that $10, considered myself lucky & went home.

Wow that's awesome!! I just got done with finals yesterday, so the pickin' won't be as good as more people go elsewhere for Christmas over the coming days (I too will be with my family for two weeks starting next Saturday). Has anybody else been noticing a rapid decline in quality of coins found lately? I've been finding more pennies than usual again lately as though it's summer all over again (I find more pennies relative to my overall totals in summer, interestingly enough), and most of them are nasty-looking. 80s zincolns look the worst, but I've even found some nasty copper cents. Nickels, dimes, and quarters don't look great lately either. Green corrosion or ugly brown discoloration on a fair number of them. A $10 bill could have been a great good luck charm for the beast of a final I had yesterday, but alas, Mr. Pink, you're a luckier man than I am.

@disco, The nasty looking finds correlate with the quality coming out of the mint. The coins are just poor quality and get nasty really quickly. Even the change I get back looks pretty nasty. The coin service companies probably used to send more coins back to the mint for processing but the mint maybe more selective so worse shape coins stay in circulation long. You also have all the people making errors to sell on ebay hence more parking lot errors in circulation. If the period of 1916 to 1930 was the golden years of US coinage we must be in the heavily tarnished years now.
