Tupac Amaru II (1738-1781)
Another indigenous revolutionary from Latin America, similar to Lempira from Honduras, posted earlier in the thread topic.
Tupac Amaru II led a large Andean uprising against Spanish colonial rule in Peru, at his peak he commanded an army of between 40,000-60,000 Andean people.
His wife was in charge of a battalion too & was said to have been a better tactician.
When eventually captured by the Spanish, Amaru was forced to watch the execution of his wife followed by his immediate family members, effectively killing off Amaru's Inca Royal Family line.
Tupac Amaru was beheaded & his body quartered.
Inca clothing and traditions were outlawed & the indigenous people were forced to adopt Spanish ways.
Amaru's rebellions inspired many more & he is highly revered as a hero and symbol of Indigenous Nationalism.
His striking image is on this Peru 500 Intis (1987) banknote

*I like the little guy on the reverse of this banknote, hiking through The Andes. He looks like Steve Reidel from the Bering Sea Gold tv show
