Favoritism at PCGS?
Surely you've got to be kidding! They would NEVER stoop low enough to let money, or auction companies, influence their decision processes!
I am appalled and shocked that people would think that could remotely be possible. s/

If I had the other, I'd put it on a 7-day ebay auction asap

I'm surprised PCGS's "reward" wasn't contingent on them keeping the coin(s).

Quote: Must be favoritism at PCGS or something.... There's no favoritism in the grades. Trying to definitively grade from pictures is a fools errand. Quote: I don't collect these, but I'm assuming these will be mass produced with a capital "MASS." If that is the case, the name recognition is wonderful, but I'd sell it in a heartbeat before the market gets flooded. There's only two of those, that's all there will ever be for the first discoveries. Quote: Since they are only auctioning one of the two it certainly seems like favoritism to me.
If I had the other I would be upset that they are not selling my coin.
Once the coin is sold it it will not bring as much as this coin did/does since it will be considered the second sold and not the first. There's no favoritism. Great Collections does not sell random things that haven't been submitted to them. The 66 was submitted to them, the 65 was never going to bring as much as the 66 because the 66 is the higher grade. If the 65 has been submitted the worst thing Great Collections could do would be to list them both at the same time. Letting this one finish and then listing the 65 would maximize the return for everyone.

PCGS does benefit from the high auction price as that does eventually factor into their estimated coin value amounts for the year and mint. I'd have to wonder how long before they list the GC auction on the PCGS Auctions website.

Sometime around 2016 it stopped capturing GC, DL, and some others. It's unclear if it's a compatibility issue or a decisions from the venues or from PCGS. The 4 it mainly (if not exclusively)captures now are Legend, Heritage, Stacks, and ebay. The ebay is a little shaky too since it depends on how the seller lists it if it gets caught or not

But what happens when they grade a handful of MS67S or a MS68? Will the other 4 MS66 coins graded so far be $3000+ coins? If not then PCGS holder labels have the value, not the coins.
Oh well, it's not my problem really. I'm looking for my MS68 or better example

Just so there is no confusion: The only 2019-W Quarter we have received on consignment thus far is the First Discovery PCGS MS-66 that is listed in our auction. That being said, we are fairly good at not auctioning duplicates of notable coins at the same time (a competitive advantage with having 52 auctions a year). We are expecting a few First Week coins in at some point - perhaps today or tomorrow. We made a decision a few years ago to not allow third parties to publish our prices realized on third party websites. Our full auction archive is available at http://www.greatcollections.com.Regards, - Ian

Ian, American case law surrounding fair-use means that any third party can quote your hammer prices as a historical record, particularly where notable coins or record prices are concerned.
