1808/7 C-2 with problems, like many of my Half Cents. I still like them!

Quote: I don't know much about these Spence but is this a normal 8? Sorry just noticing this question now. That is a very fair question, but one to which I don't know the answer. I bought this coin raw in '04 and haven't had any reason to doubt its authenticity. Of the two other '08 Half Cents posted yesterday, second eight of my coin looks pretty similar to @cipster's but quite different from @phil310's. Maybe one of our hard-core copper folk could comment?

USSID18, that is called a normal 8 although it was probable punched into the die by making two punches with the reverse denominator 0 punch. So it's not really very normal. There were 3 Cohen varieties for 1808. The normal 8 (C-3) like Spence's and cipster's, and then two with the 8/7 obverse like the one I posted. The one I posted is the C-2. The other one, the C-1 is one of the rarest Half Cents. The C-1 has a different reverse die that didn't last very long.

There are 6 Cohen varieties for 1809. This is the C-2.
