Here is a 1848 (medium date) Half Dime that is in pretty rough shape:   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."

Yes hard livin' on that one. My inferior picture-taking skills don't do these coins any favors, but clearly this one was quite worn when it was defaced.
Now that I look at it a little more closely, that last digit in the date looks a bit more like a 9 than an 8. Maybe I have the date mislabeled. Thoughts anyone?
