Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 04/26/2020 04:44 am Getting away from the UK and King George the Fifth for a few minutes, I have another exotic beauty for you all. This is a 2 Millemes of Egypt dated 1924 (AH1342) in Arabic numerals. It is worn, but an interesting piece showing King Fuad (1922 - 1936) of the dynasty that also gave us Farouk, playboy and coin collector. Hre are a halfpenny, shilling, florin and halfcrown: They do give an idea what these coins looked like when you found them in change in the late sixties (and early seventies for the shilling and florin). Princetane Pillar of the Community 4628 Posts	Posted 04/26/2020 2:16 pm My final 1924 coin is another worn piece - although this one is slightly better than most shown by me lately. Like Numis Rob said, many of these half silver coins from 1920 onwards had circulated heavily through at least to 1947 and even well up to 1971 and with the shillings and florins up to the 1990s in some cases before the 5p and 10p coins were shrunk in size. Pre 1920 coins were sterling silver and generally less likely to circulate all that time, as by the 1960s, their silver value was more than their face value. Report this Post to the Staff
