Wow, with everything going on (not) I almost missed 1923.

Here's my near-lowball 1923-S Peace dollar...

How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Sixth-Edition!-Ended-At-1380-Waiting-On-1379 How-Far-Back-Can-We-Go?-Sixth-Edition!-Ended-At-1380-Waiting-On-1379

I bought this dollar, as far as I can tell, exactly nine years ago to the day. It cost about $28, which was, on that particular day, technically under spot.
The seller flip said 1921, so I paid for it thinking that's what it was. Then I turned the coin over and saw the actual date. Kept it anyway, though, because under spot can't hurt, right?

...The mintmark was at least a mild silver lining (pun not intended) when I accidentally found it about a year later.

I dunno how many other 1923-dated coins I'd be able to post here, so here's three on one pic...

OK, doesn't look like I'll get many more chances, so two closely related coins this time.

It might look like the first coin here is a large denomination and the second is a small one, and technically that would be true, but there had been a redenomination between them, preceded by so much hyperinflation that the second coin was technically supposed to be worth 40,000,000 times the first one (Arkie's 200,000 mark coin is somewhere in the middle).

Fun fact: those pics were made on the same afternoon in January 2014. The second set was cropped and posted on CCF the very next day. The first set had not been posted - or even cropped - until November 2019, nearly six years later.

Love them both, as you may know January1May the German Inflation reached a peak on November 22 1923 and the next day, the Rentenmark was introduced at some rate like 10 Milliard old marks for one new Pfennig or something (Not sure just have the stamps which stop at 50 Milliard Marks).

A lot of those Notgeld coins are actually aluminium I think too.

The Rentenmark endured and became the Reischmark and of course the Nazi currency.

I am assuming your Peace dollar is AG3 just a bit too high for Lowball which is Fair2 and down?

You will like that I have some gorgeous Russian empire coins coming up as we get before Lenin and the USSR.
