For 1615, I have this Poland 3 kreuzer from the Krakow mint, a short-lived type. Thanks to "How Far Back" teamwork, We've now covered these 10 denominations in the reign of Sigismund III: 2 and 3 denars, solidus (=6 denar or 1/3 groschen), 1, 3, 6 and 18 groschen, 1/24 thaler (dreipolker/poltorak = 1.5 groschen), 3 kreuzer (= 9/5 groschen) and thaler. I'm not exactly spreading the cluster for today either   Riga under Poland, Sigismund III, solidus, 1615. I apologize for the blurriness, never got around to re-photographing that coin. (Those pics are from 2013...) Not a lot left to post for me after this point, and many of those don't even have pics (I really should get around to finding and photographing my 16th century coins... also 17th, 18th, and 19th century for that matter). On the subject of Polish denominations: which denominations from Sigismund III's reign we hadn't posted? (Under a thaler, anyway, doubt anyone here has anything larger.) IIRC there's a 1 denar; anything else? |

I'll disturb the even distribution for today with one more Sigismund coin, an 18 groschen form the Gdansk mint. As I mentioned in the 1626 post, this is the earliest bust style of the 4 used on this type between 1608-1626. Now, no more Siggy portraits from me for a whole week    |

1614 N-B Hungarian Denar under King Matthias II. Without magnification it looks like a pale deep red toning but it is just copper that came to the surface.   |

Also I noticed the date appears in a different place on those denars, and the madonna faces in different directions. SO, what's up with that? 1613 Poland 1 groschen, Krakow mint, my first in a string of this type (I think some of the other regulars have this type too).   Edited by tdziemia

Yes also mine is KB not NB. Beyond that, I think it is best to let our resident expert in medieval Hungarian coins (@eddiediz) talk about the differences. For today, I have a Liard from the French City of Chateau-Renaud dated 1613 AD:   "If you climb a good tree, you get a push."
