I must admit, I will make an attempt at on screen grading despite all of the obvious difficulties intentional or unintentional, that may cause problems. Excellent photography most certainly helps both the buyer and seller, and bad photography can lead to a (sometimes unfair) red flag.
It is for this reason, why, when buying coins for myself, that I always closely examine the item in hand, before deciding to buy. The picture may attract me to the coin, be it ancient or modern, but I still need to look at it first.
