France 1956, 10000 francs. Another colorful Frenchman : Napoleon Bonaparte, here in his capacity as founder of Banque de France. 10,000 francs was the largest denomination - less than 30 USD at the time, corresponding to about 250 USD today.

New Zealand - Five Pounds Fleming signature (1956 - 1966), this is an early example. There is no security thread meaning it must have been printed before 1959. The designs on these and the 10/- date back to 1939/40.

The French stick out with their colorful notes. Here is what Swedish banknotes looked like at the time, not too many colors used here ... Sweden 1955, 10 kronor.

1954 and 2 of my rarest and nicest notes Australia £1 1954 - 1959 with "Commonwealth Bank" - Reserve Bank ones are 1960 to 1965 Australia £5 1954 - 1960 series, this one is almost EF and my nicest note - a scarce one too. Australia was strange at the time, their top note was only £10/$20 until 1973! Won't be much more from me here for a while.

Beautiful banknotes from everyone! It is interesting to see how the style of banknotes differ between France and Britain at this time. The French 1956 note I showed, full of color and elaborate pictorial details, all text rather plain and simple. What a contrast with the British note shown by DavidUK: All white, almost text only, with just a discrete Britannia keeping on eye on things from one corner. But what text, or rather, calligraphy! Meanwhile, in Sweden, the banknotes have an austere style, with just a few decorative elements. A reflection of the Swedish temper? Sweden 1954, 5 kronor.

1954 was a busy year for BOC: First 2 "Devil's Faces" (Two & Five) both with the 2nd (& more common) Beattie-Coyne signature combo: and a Twenty DF with the initial Coyne-Towers signature, truly released in 1954: These were pulled from circulation in 1956 with the "Modified" series as their successor. The $20 is actually my first banknote I bought at a Sears coin shop for far too much (it was over graded) & I was far too eager to get it (since I'd been looking for years). It is probably worth about $5 dollars more than what I paid for it back in 1978.
