Only rare modern proofs will be worth much in impaired condition, like Jeffersons from the early 50's 40's and 30's. The rarity on a whole brings the demand, because more recent proof have much higher mintages they arent worth to much in impaired state with some exceptions unless they are made of silver. Still though its quite rare to find a proof nickel. Ive only found two so far in the thousands of dollars searched, a 1971s and a 1950. Coppernickeldaddy, who has seached through over 6600 rolls of nickels, has found only 6 proofs out of 264000 nickels searched.

Proof coin count for me in change exceeds 100 coins. A few dimes, a couple of quarters, a dozen half dollars (from roll searching for silver), and a few dozen cents and nickels. Of course I've been doing this for as much time as a part time job for the past 25 years nearly non-stop. I go through 10-20 rolls of coins a day on average.
