Just bought a roll each of 10c, 20c, 50c today and in the 10c roll are 3 shiny 10 cent pieces! The first I have seen dated 2019! One each for me, Triggersmob and Ralf!

I just found 2 more, actually with some wear. The roll of 50 coins had
2006 - 13 2009 - 2 2011 - 6 2012 - 2 2013 - 2 2014 - 3 2015 - 9 2016 - 8 2019 - 5
The 25 x 20 cent coins had 2 wide date 2014s in it, so I knew it was a good roll
The 50 cent roll had all the dates, 2018, 2016, 2015, 2014 and 2009/06 in it. I mainly brought them as Ralf has been giving me very nice Polymer 5 Euro climate coins and has requested the NZ 10c/50c and he's getting them.

Time for a new noodle.
The situation since last year. NZ entered a national lockdown in August and as a result coin usage plummeted down to near nothing as many stores illegally banned cash. The opening up only restarted in October for most of the country and late November where I live.
Hence they have been slow to release recently minted coins. As late as August 2019 coins were rare and this noodle got only one of the alleged 30 million coins minted for 2020.
Nothing to date was apparently minted in 2021. This noodle may surprise you.

I tried to buy a roll of each denomination on Dec 31st 2021 and only managed to get $1, 10c and 20c. There were no $2 or 50c. The $2 are also expensive at $50 a roll. Roll costs are $5 for 50 x 10c, and 25 x 20c, $10 for 20 x 50c, $25 for $1 x 25 and $50 for 25 x $2. All rolls are rolled by security companies, mostly Armourguard and coins of all eras will be mixed. Results - 10 cent coins, total in the roll was 51, so I got one extra (Armourguard can't count) All years this coin was minted for circulation were present except 2020. The standard of many of the coins was quite poor, but a handful of nice examples was found including a very nice 2006 (high AU, mostly lustrous) and a decent 2007 (A scarce year). On the other hand 3 very dark and worn 2019s were found!!! 2006 - 9 (Expected as it was 120 million minted, still doing great service after 15 years) 2007 - 1 (Nice surprise) 2009 - 4 2011 - 3 Good as its a low mintage year 2012 - 8 A big year 2013 - 3 A smaller year 2014 - 6 Big year, you get some lustre from this year 2015 - 8 A huge year, much lustre 2016 - 3 Already becoming scarce and a small year 2019 - 6 Interesting how worn 3 were, one brand new Photo shows the better coins I found including a very nice 1st year coin (Far right), the dollar was also a nice find (Not with the 10cents, just lazy photography). Overall the 10 cent coins delight, despite their low value, we use a lot of them and they have had the most years of coins minted by far. I expect to see 2020 dated ones soon.

The 20 cents were quite predictable except for one coin. There were no 2016 or 2019 dated coins and I suspect this was due to low (2019) and invisible (2016) mintage. There was a single 2020 dated coin, which I am keeping until a better one comes along. It's lustre is limited and it seems a bit "oily" sometimes you get that from coins on roll edges. Or are they disinfecting them because of the risk of covid (Even though Covid can not be spread on metal coins or paper notes, wowsers dominate our woke country). Results were very pedestrian 2006 - 10 coins (Expected given there were 80 million minted) 2008 - 9 coins (Ditto, a huge 2nd mintage of 70 million) 2014 - 2 Narrow date, no wide date 2015 - 3 2016 - 0 2018 - 0 2019 - 0 2020 - 1 Most of the coins were shiny, some very 2015 dated ones. Now $1 coins - these were by far the most disappointing of the lot. The roll had several grubby coins, yet there were a few surprises including a VF 1990 and EF 1991 (Ralf are you interested). Plus a 2019 coin that looked absolutely mint fresh. The better 1990 and 1991 coins, the 2019 is on the 10 cent coins image. The roll had all circulated dates except 2005, 2016 (Invisible), and 2020 - not out yet. Numbers of 1990/91 coins were fairly low compared to earlier noodles. 1990 - 4 (Including 1 VF) 1991 - 3 (Including 1 EF) 2000 - 2 2002 - 1 2003 - 2 2004 - 1 2005 - 0 2008 - 3 2010 - 2 2013 - 3 2015 - 3 2016 - 0 2018 - 0 2019 - 1 2020 - 0 Total 25 coins. Well that concludes that noodle. I will aim to do another or bigger one in several months (My friend has already accumulated more change for me to buy slowly given Covid's kibosh on coin usage).

Quote: Roll costs are $5 for 50 x 10c, and 25 x 20c, $10 for 20 x 50c, $25 for $1 x 25 and $50 for 25 x $2. Most of your rolls are longer than ours. Our 10 & 20 cent coins come in $4 rolls (which makes it a hassle if you want $50 worth) and $1 coins come in $20 rolls. And it hardly seems worth the trouble of going out in these times of Covid if all you can get your hands on is one roll of each denomination! Interesting though, thanks Princetane.

Hello PT, Yes, I'm interested in the 1991 $1. I'm also interested in a 2011 10c (would like to upgrade). Thanks.

Done, the 1991 will is put aside for you.
What is your current 2011 10 cent coin like, I can give you one with a bit of lustre but not brilliant.
What are those other coin dates you need an upgrade on?
Gratis - I owe you for those nice Polar zone coins.

$50 Note noodle! As an interesting aside, we collected the rent off our tenant on Tuesday night and he paid us in cash, as he does not use computers and cheques are banned here now. He paid us $2200 in $50 notes, so I decided to do a brief noodle of the notes, I hope you may find it amusing. The notes for noodling! In New Zealand, the $50 is the secind highest note and until about 2010 was seldom used, but has been put in ATMs more and is promoted as a workhorse note now, its dominance is growing but the $20 is still king. All notes in circulation now are polymer Series G notes of 2015/16 onwards. Some series F notes (1999/2014) still circulate especially of the $50 and $100. Phasing in of Series G started in 2016, but penetration has been slow and many older notes still circulate. It's easy to date notes from 1999 onwards, after the 3 letter Prefix is the 2 numbers and these are the year digits (99, 02, 16 etc) and then 6 numbers. Notes are not issued every year and every denom in issued in different years. $50 were issued in 1999, 2004,05,07,12,14 in Series F and 2016 and 18 in Series G. Mintages often started at AA and went through the alphabet often up to D something, but $50s usually stopped at B or C. Being Polymer and a high denom, they lasted for a while as well. Governors on the notes included Brash (1999 - 2003) - Also on series D (1989) and E (1992/98) notes Bollard 2004 - 2012 Wheeler 2014 (Series F) and 2016 (G) Orr 2018 onwards (No notes higher than 2018 sighted so far).

The resultsSeries F Allan Bollard notes 2005 - 1 2007 - 2 Series F - Graeme Wheeler notes 2014 - 2 The oldest note found (Lowest serial number) The fact 5 of the 44 notes were the old Series F was interesting, some people have reported 1999 Dated Brash notes being found although the Paper Series E are unknown. I last saw a Paper series E note in 2012 and it was a really tatty $5. Modern Series G notes 2016 - Graeme Wheeler A - 7 B - 10 C - 5 2018 - Adrian Orr A - 8 B - 9 (Including 4 consecutive numbers) C - 0 None issued yet 22 or half of the notes were Wheelers and just a few were Orr Series B. Despite being Year marked I suspect Prefix B and C notes are later. My guesses - Wheeler B = 2017, C = late 2017/early 2018 Orr B = 2020/21 (I did not see an Orr note until late 2019) Hope you found this interesting and may do more note noodles in the future. PS - As none were rare and these are expensive, the notes were all banked yesterday. As we speak they are in circulation.

Now noticing the arrival of the 2020 dated 10 cent coins, I brought some more rolls to see if I could get some examples.
It was disappointing, so disappointing I did not bother with photos.
I did a $20 buy in - that is one roll each of the 10c, 20c and 50c. I am going through a low cash cycle and the $1 and $2 cost $25 and $50 each!.
The results
10c - 50 coins, this roll was a bust, 6 of the coins had verdigris and one was basically green and corroded! I did not date these, but they were mostly 2006s and a 2014.
It is amazing a copper plated steel coin could already have verdigris, must have been in water.
Dates - 2006 x 9, 2007 x 2, 2009 x 6, 2012 x 1, 2013 x 4, 2014 x 2, 2015 x 3, 2016 x 6, 2019 x 10, 2020 x 1.
Generally a predictable bunch, most are dark. The 2012 was fresh and a keeper, the 2020 was marginally better and I will keep it. 7 of the 2019s, 1 each of the 2015 and 2016 were fully bright. The 2007s were both worn and 2 of the 2006's had lustre. There were no 2011 coins. I did not count the 6 corroded verdigris coins.
20c - 2006 x 13 (Over half of them), 2008 x 6, 2014 1 each large date/ small date, 2015 and 2019 x 1 each, 2020 x 2.
It is not good that 19 of the 25 coins were super common 2006s and 2008s and all were worn. The small date 2014 was a nice surprise and the 2 of the 2020 coins. This coin is the only common 2020 coin as the 10c is elusive and the 50c, $1 and $2 are not known yet.
50c - Another predictable group, although these were mostly in good shape, some staining on a 2015 and cloudiness on the 2006 and 2009 coins. The 2018 coin was stunnng.
2006 x 10 (Half of them!!), 2009 x 3, 2014 x 1, 2015 x 3, 2016 x 2, 2018 x 1. No Anzac or Armistice (Then again why would I be surprised?)
Overall a forgettable noodle, I am only keeping 4 or 5 coins the shiny 2012 10 cents and a couple of the 2019s and 2016 10 cents, the small date 2014 20 cents was cloudy and stained - so will be released back into circulation. I may also nab the 2018 50 cent coin.
