PrinceTane, your pics from yesterday show as Florin, then threepence and then florin again. This can happen on this forum, if the pics have the same title. This is what I am seeing... Secondly congrats on tracing your family back to the convict days. I am a late arrival to Australia and you guessed it, it was 1969 when I arrived. Originally I am from near Rob's neck of the woods. Caterham / Warlingham in Surrey U.K. Nice picture Rob, shame Emma didn't quite live long enough to see 1900. Ok, now let's see what coins I can dig up for the year of the Russian Revolution. 1917 Steve

Interesting, because this is what I see. I had to reduce size so I could show it in 1 image. The shilling at top looks pretty identical to the Florin, and can be easily confused. Congratulations on your full set of 1917's. I have absolutely nowhere near completion for these earlies, they are a work in progress.

PrinceTane, I just did what you did, but posted above in reply. Yours came up first though, as my internet dropped out for a while.

That is very strange, something wrong with the site, not me. Also it may be your internet connections in your countries, mine never drops out and is always strong. But to assuage your feelings and not let this develop into an international incident over a 103 year coin - here you go again. It seems the Florin has the file name A.1918a and the shilling had a1918a. I sweated blood to make sure names don't clash and as the files appeared in 2 different folders, there must have been some confusion. To avoid this I have changed the name of the shilling image which will make the folder flow hectic. The Florin photo dated from Oct 2020 and was in a different folder which would eliminate file name clash warnings, and Shilling photo was taken on March 8th. My computer avoids this clash, but I guess you guys are using some older or more technical devices.

Princetane, thanks for posting the 1918 shilling photo. On your original '1918' post I see the florin twice as well, just like triggersmob and redlock!

Thanks Jbuck
PrinceTane, like I said before it's just a file name thing. I had the same problem when I started posting pics here years ago. Now I can see the shilling. :)

Well that whole experience was enlightening. I thought a system of naming files as a and n would be novel - but has turned out to be a mass confusion. Posting early today as I have meetings and I have realised the Americans have hopped to daylight savings already (You guys have VERY long daylight savings compared to the rest of us, we have 6 months up from 4½, you guys are like 8½). 1916 Florin - damaged with Cud at the bottom and flattening. Even without the damage, its good at best! My shilling is a gazillion times better and close to VF Heads shows a lot of detail and like a full crown band. Thats all from me for 1916. I have nothing but silver back to 1913. Finally, 1916 was the first year of the silver coins being minted in Australia, in this case M for Melbourne. Previous to 1916, only Gold had been minted in Australia (Unless we count things like holey dollars and tradesmen tokens ) 1910 - 1915 Silver coins of Australia were minted in the UK and brought to Australia.

1916 lowball coins will get to 1910 but beyond there might be very spotty with collection even if we can include badges/medals/tokens/ hopefully someone has some real banger gold coins :)

1915 All I have are the two shillings. The standard one was minted at the tower and H coin at the Heaton Mint in Birmingham (Makes a change from Melbourne) Both are pretty worn (VGish) condition. Despite that both are worth a bit more than bullion (Like 10x more even in VG). The H coin is more scarce (500k vs 800k). The mintages were low compared to the usual 2 - 5 million you have each year of early shillings. I have nada for any other 1915 Australian pieces.
