GrapeCollects, I hadn't look at it like that with the trade. I do get the issue with wheat cents, I guess it's the same reasonimg to why I'm looking at offloading them LOL.

Hfjacinto, thank you. I did finish filling what I could of the album that my father was working on, but I will be keeping that one in his memory. I have no real interest in filling more.

Thank you all for all of your insight and advice. This is truly why I came here.

You may be able to find someone thru ebay who is looking to buy. I know a few people who may be interested, and I can think of a few fellow forum members who might, however BST rules prohibit me or anyone else from making any real formal offer without explicit staff permission. I'm allowed to say what we would theoretically pay, or what I'd theoretically personally pay, but not make you an offer so to speak.

My bad ,I missed the key word (not).Sorry.
I suggest selling on ebay,LCS,local coin club, news paper (if they still have those ) Facebook. Ask family and friends if they collect or want to start.

Asking friends and family if they would like them as a gift or something like that just to let them go without the hassle of everything else would be my suggestion. I know if I had somebody that had a bunch like that even in bad condition kids tend to really enjoy receiving something like that. You may even get a new collector started. I would. But that's just my opinion

I'm able to get 5-7 cents each when selling on CL. You might also try that. That's for the common 30's 40's 50's ones.
more for the earlier dates.

In bulk like this me I will pay 2c each, which come 4c or more with shipping. And this just to fill some holes in my hobby books.

To check each one for variety or such for 6000 coins will take some from 30k min to 45k min, and this it is a very , very conservative estimation.

500 hours?! Huhhh? A bag of 5000 wheat cents might take my 6 hours if I'm checking every single coin.

Suggestion: Selling on e-bay you need photos which take time, a lot of time. Then time for shipping, also the premium you will pay to them and pay-pal, and also customers will come with all kind of complains like do not received or such. Others selling sites maybe could be more interesting alternatives. You have to decide your self what could accommodate you better.

The stores sellers on e-bay have years and years of front store and every thing catalogued. So they have the back-up of years and years of work and experience, your case seem to be different.

Good luck and welcome here.

I thought that I would give a follow up on my experience and the outcome for anyone that may stumble onto this thread that had the same question(s) that I originally started with.

I went with the majority of commentors and decided to sell them on ebay. This was my first experience with ebay, either buying or selling, so the learning curve was steep. Once I finally created my account with both ebay and PayPal, which took some time and a couple of calls between the two, things went rather smoothly.

I went with an approach of variety of listings; rolls of early LWCs 10, 20 &30s, all decades rolls (10 from each decade), mixed lots by the pound and 5 pound. Selling by the roll and by the pound eliminated the need for individual photos, so I just needed to take photos of the rolls and piles of cents.

Like predicted, the early rolls were easiest to sell and sold for much higher than the others. In all, it took me about 8 months to sell all 6000. Most sales occurred in the second, third and fourth months, probably after I had received positive feedback and became more of an established seller. The timeframe was fine with me since they had just been sitting prior to starting this. During the heaviest sales shipping was a bit of a pain, but I started a practice of shipping only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays (if needed). Luckily the post office isn't too far from my home.

After all was said and done, and after ebay fees, I ended up getting an average price of $0.12/cent. Obviously way more than the 2-3 cents an LCS would pay, but not without some work. I guess that I was lucky in that I had no complaints and no lost shipments.

Thanks again to all of the commentors for your input in helping me make my decision in how to deal with these. I am pleased with the outcome and the experience re-sparked my interest in coin collecting. Although I am staying away from LWCs, aside from my quest to complete my father's album!
