Once the retailer received it, they will quality check coins, and if everything checks out, they will pay the price agreed upon, unless they detect something else.

Its best practice to send good clear quality pictures of each coin of both side.

Unless the coin is scarce or rare, sending to 3rd party and getting it grade for common gold coins are not cost effective, only if you know the coin is high grade.

You can Google for precious metal online retailers, check top 10 online retailers or call a few to get pricing.

Edit: Then check ebay sold prices to compare to what you have, then subtract fees + shipping.

Hi Testerc. Can you send me a PM? I would be interested in purchasing your coins. You will get a lot more selling to anyone in this community than you will to the large online retailers or any pawn shop. I came here years ago to learn about my coins and absolutely love this community!

The letters on the back side of the 2x2s are most likely a dealers code for what he paid for the coin/ or what he has to get when he sells. Most dealers I know have a code system so they can tell at a glance what they have invested in the coin. If you want to sell them, first look up and see if your area has a local coin club. You could reach out to them and most likely sell them to one of the club members. You would probably get the best price that way by selling directly to a collector. We have people come to our club meeting with coins to sell and they often get great prices because they have very desirable coins like yours.

If you are not in a hurry to sell, then joining a coin club to buy, sell and trade is a valuable source, once you have established being a member for a while. Another way is to go to a local coin show and see how much dealers will buy from you, watch out! You maybe surprise how some dealers work.

If you want to sell here, I believe the rules here is a member have to have 250 qualified posts in order to sell.

mamercury,

What do you mean "watch out"?

Is it that I am likely to be taken (get a poor deal) because I don't know much about numismatics?

mamercury is correct... people are always looking to make as much money as they can at your loss. As others have mentioned, look at ebay's "sold" listing of your coins to get a good idea for the value of your coins. Know that the people who sell on ebay have to pay ebay fees, paypal fees, and shipping, so take that into consideration.

I have been looking to purchase coins similar to yours so if you want to know more you can send me an email/message on the little icon near my name.

@testerc,

Knowledge is everything, if you're not in a hurry to sell, its best to check out how much other's will offer you.
Check out Kitco daily spot prices for the gold value and other precious metals value, at least you know how close your gold should be worth.

Depends on condition, there's small numismatic premium value in your coins, that's why we always suggest people to take clear, sharp pictures, so we can have a better assessment to the coin condition.

This is the same type and year of coin that sold on ebay: https://www.ebay.com/itm/1895-S-Gol...262095294040

The coin (to my untrained eye) appears in a lesser condition than my 20 dollar coin but this one (the coin on ebay) has the PCGS MS63 grade.

On the other hand, there are other 20 dollar gold coins from other years that sold for $450+/- less and they appeared to be in BETTER condition.
