Sadly I must agree with the others on this one, whizzed and not well done either. Very obvious from the photos. Looking at hundreds or thousands of coins and making sure some of them are genuine original untouched gems with original surfaces is the best way to learn. It's hard now, but after life get's back to a more normal mode again, and coin shows are going on, try to attend and look at as many coins as possible, also don't forget the big auction firms, anyone can register and go to viewing, this INO is one of the best ways to get your hands on coins you normally wouldn't see, ask a dealer to let you hold or even have a chance to ever hold period. I'm lucky that I live nearby one of the biggest auction firms in the world (Heritage) and I can schedule lot viewing at my leisure and spend a few hours getting to look at the coins in hand and make notes on them.

Ok, time for a big bump to this topic, as I have looked into this coin for a while. (Better pictures when I can...) Note, this coin is still a work in progress, but I still plan getting this coin certified later on. After looking at multiple examples of truly whizzed coins, I can say fairly confidentially that this Half Dime is not whizzed, but (may?) be very lightly dipped, as there is a very well-pronounced cartwheel effect in which a whizzed coin should not have that characteristic. I notice clash marks on both sides, and somewhat match the stupendous 68 on PCGS coinfacts though that coin has more pronounced clashing. So that PCGS 68 was probably struck from well-clashed fresh dies, and as the dies kept striking these coins, die wear made the clash marks get progressively weaker. Somewhere along the line, a die chip on the O in OF broke away and made an incomplete letter. On the upper left section of the reverse wreath, that is a striking weakness, as the PCGS 67+ example clearly shows. So my current verdict: Not whizzed, but probable light dipping as the cartwheel effect is not affected, in my opinion.  Better pictures coming... |

Looking at the current pics, not seeing whizzing, something looks off but would need better pics to determine.
I've been collecting for a couple years... Favorite Coin's are Standing Liberty quarters, Working on my type set | Coffee, Corvettes, Coins & the CCF what could be better? |

It's whizzed  Whizzing creates a false luster which is exactly what you are seeing. I've seen TPGs calling this Altered Surfaces lately, so expect it as that. Suffering from bust half fever. After three years and you are STILL not convinced to it's obvious whizzing?  Why on earth don't you spend a few more bucks and send it off to ANACS and see what they think about it? So, for the first time this year I am offering to eat a well-cooked crow pie if you submit this coin to one of the main stream grading services and it comes back in a straight graded problem-free holder! Over the past 10+ years I've made this offer here on this forum and have never had to cook one up! (I don't expect to this time either!)  |

So do truly whizzed coins cause cartwheel effects to disappear? Or does the barest hint of whizzing keep that cartwheel effect? I know I have a couple truly whizzed and cleaned coins in my collection but those are definitely obvious to my eyes  This 1861 Half Dime, not so sure on that yet. I want to make a submission to PCGS of several of my coins, this one being one.  |

The surfaces are definitely not natural, and I agree it looks whizzed. If you still have doubt, rather than wasting money on grading, bring it to a coin show and get opinions from a few dealers with the coin in hand.
