Great die stage! I think the grade is preposterous but hey, NGC.

@GrapeCollects why preposterous? It's a great looking coin. And at 83 years old I hope I look that good! What would you call it?

@JD,

That coin is no better than 65, and not particularly strong for the grade either. Heavy bag marks are present all over the bust and face, and a few large marks are visible in the field. The reverse doesn't fair much better either.

Edit:

The more I look at it, I think a 64 or possibly even a 63 is more appropriate. 3-4 points overgraded is really bad.

I agree, that is a deep hit behind the field behind the head for an ms67, possible abrasion in front of the chin, lots of chatter near the tie, and below America...seen better in most ms66 slabs...but typical Lincoln grading by NGC

Spectacular coin! Nice buy!

I also agree that it isn't MS67 but it's still a gorgeous coin nonetheless!

Thanks guys. I did have a NGC coin that was graded a 67 and ended up getting a 65 at PCGS. I think a 63-64 is a little harsh. A 64 38S has a very mushy obverse strike. But no biggie, I'm sure I'll get more for it than I paid and another reason I don't post coins on the grading forum. The reason no one does.
