I won this set from an ebay auction to add to my Edward VII type set. It took several months to find a nice set in my price range as there seemed to be a lot of cleaned sets out there and some really nice sets that were slabbed and very expensive. I am really happy with this set, which is one of my favorite pieces in my collection. The 4d and 3d have a nice blue toning and the 2d and 1d have a less even red-orange tone. Here is a picture of the case The year 1908 happens to be the final year that basically anyone could order a set through a bank. After 1908, Maundy money was only given to Maundy recipients and some mint or government officials, so the number of sets were significantly less than for much of the 19th century. More about the Royal Maundy if you are not familiar with the ceremony. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roy...a%20premium.

Fascinating history of the coins and really appreciate the link to the history of the Maundy coins original use in early England. Your set is stunning in appearance and valued in its numismatic state - thank you for sharing the story. This is hopefully the start of a new GTP process to allow some breathing room between coins to further our collective CCF mission of education. Thank you jbuck for making this happen.

Quote: This is hopefully the start of a new GTP process to allow some breathing room between coins to further our collective CCF mission of education. OK - the coin owner d251 shared valued information and I appreciated their contributions, so I say our collective initial attempt at sharing some educational info was a success. Round 7 coin $24
