Nothing as beautiful as the stunning coins that have been posted up to now! New Jersey copper c1787 found in a junk bin at my LCS: I also have a very rough 1798 Large Cent: (I've adjusted the color and brightness of the photo to show more detail: the coin is actually a dark chocolate brown color)

1794 Large Cent. It's in AG condition, but the date is readable and the reverse is in good shape. I got it for a song--$46--off of ebay a few years ago. Regardless of the condition, it's still wonderful to have a coin minted when George Washington was president!

Since a few folks have been posting colonials, here is my absolute fave (and the oldest coin directly linked to the US in my collection): a Shilling from Massachusetts colony dated 1652 AD. It is attributed as Noe 25 and was graded VF30 by PCGS. Sorry about the poor quality of the pics

Well, I actually have a 6-way tie for my oldest U.S. coin. My type set is still missing the 1793 and 1794 half-cent one-year types, as well as the chain and wreath large cents and 1792 Half Disme. I've managed to get most of the 1795 copper and silver issues, however, but at this point I'm still missing the lettered-edge half-cent and cent.

@hfjacinto, you don't want to know how many years it's taken me to get this set!

My nice light brown S28 1794 Large Cent with a weak reverse. It's my oldest post-confederation coin. I have lots of colonials.
