Sorry, I've been a bit slow returning to this thread. Thanks everyone for your input. I like a lot of the ideas -- although I won't be inviting any buyers to my house. I wish there was a local coin club but my town is too small for that. Shipping also cuts into the margins, so mail sales might bring more but that would offset the profit.

Let me ask a more specific question: Are there any smelting companies that *do* purchase from the general public and what would the minimum be?

The cost of gasoline/fuel/electricity must be factored into driving to and from anywhere to sell your items. Currently, that could be way more than the cost of shipping.

Yes shipping is minimal using a flat rate USPS box. You could easily ship 1,000 quarters for $10 plus insurance

ebay and PayPal fees can eat up some profits but if you list here and require payment by postal money order there are no fees or hassles.

Midwest Refineries, Michigan. They advertise paying 90%/90% and 92% for .999, no minimum order.

I sell bullion either to a local bullion dealer or an online business like APMEX or JMB. Depends on the buy price, really.
