Stujoe, that Lincoln Cent Photo is one of the most realistic coin photos I've ever seen!! You got me thinking of buying a FZ7, and I already have 5 digital cameras!! Good Job!!Frank

Congratulation, Shatsi! Take your time with it. It's a pretty sophisticated piece of electronics, almost a handheld computer with a lens . There's a great tutorial from SuperDave in another topic elsewhere in the Coin Photography forum. It's a pretty steep learning curve, but it's well worth it!

Thanks Bryan. After playing around, this is the only 2 decent pics that I could come up with.

Shatsi, in one day, you took better pictures of that Barber quarter than 90% of those on ebay. It took me more than a week to get to a level of quality which was acceptable to myself and I would say that mine still aren't as good as yours. Way to go! Fred

Thank you!! Let's see what everyone would grade it(in the grading section) The bad thing is, I don't remember the settings I used Will try it again later. I have to take a break from this as I have my final exams coming up.

They look good. Looks like you might want to read up on the White Balance settings. It probably lets you set a custom white balance by shooting at a white card first. That will help correct the yellow tint.

Stujoe.....I don't know if you read my previous post, but I stated the Photo you took of the Lincoln Cent really impressed me! I stated that you got me wanting a "Panasonic FZ7"...Well I ordered one this Morning!! Thanks for the Information!! Now, I just got to sneak it into the house without my Wife seeing it..LOL!! Frank

Did anyone using the S2 have any "memory card error"? In another camera forum lot of poeple using canon cameras were complaning about it and it mostly seem to come up once you're used up the 256MB plus you loose all the photographs.
My friend using a canon camera had the same problem(not S2 though).

I think you will have a lot of fun with the camera! I know I have. Oh, and it isn't real big. But, I think she is going to notice it. lol

Shatsi, I've got the 512mb card, but dump the images after I've downloaded them, usually a matter of only a few dozen at highest resolution. It's faster to download new images if the older ones have been dumped, so I don't let them accumulate. I probably won't get close to filling up the card unless I go on a long trip without my laptop or start taking lots of movies. However, I suspect they are right, that a card error will appear if the storage is used up.
Frankallen, when you get your FZ7 and have had the chance to play with it a bit, please feel free to post a few images in a new topic. Also, since Stujoe is experienced with it, maybe he'll post a short tutorial for it for coins similar to the S2 IS tutorial by SuperDave.

I am pretty simple (ok, lazy is more accurate lol) when it comes to coin photos. Generally, I use this method http://www.stujoe.com/content/view/47/45/With the FZ, I typically do about the same thing except I usually hand hold the camera instead of using the stand. Here is a quicky example I jsut did... Flickr Page (can view larger size from there): http://www.flickr.com/photos/stujoe/305317947/That is hand held, macro mode, custom white balance, spot metering. That's it. No post processing at all except for a crop. The coin is a little smaller than a dime. I could probably get a little sharper focus if I used my mini tripod but I don't bother as I am happy with results like that. Here are some other photos of what the camera can do in a novice's hands...(not all coin related) http://www.flickr.com/photos/stujoe...94327509194/
