The tops of the 8's are broad compared to the tops of the 9's, and if you look, you can see clearly that the 3rd digit has a curve and width that much more closely matches that of the following 9 than of the preceding 8. 1899-S is also quite a bit more common of a date than 1889-S. Last year I posted what I thought was an 1889 CC PO-01, it turned out to be an O and not a CC, at least that's what they thought at PCGS. So here are my two posts, first when I asked for opinions here and the second link is after I got it graded and it actually was graded PO-01, just not the CC I was hoping for. mrwhatisit Pillar of the Community United States 2955 Posts	Posted 08/02/2022 10:17 am Ok, several updates, this I can confirm is an 1899-S date; I looked at the loops in the date and they are only consistent with an 1899. On vamworld, there are four vams that have a tilted S mintmark; mine has it, and I am leaning more to VAM-14 at the moment. Report this Post to the Staff
