Details for the Round Nine item: To start, I have no idea how much this $25 colonial is really worth. It is my only colonial note and was purchased from a member of my local coin club who is downsizing his collection. I asked if he had a decent colonial that I could afford and I'm pretty sure he gave me a good deal. I'm very happy to have this piece of North Carolina history under my care. The mottos on the note are interesting. To the right, we see "Death to Counterfeit" while on the left, is part of a quote from the Roman poet, Horace: "Dulce pro patria mori" which translates ".to die sweetly for the country." Does that mean someone caught counterfeiting would die sweetly for the country? Probably more of a patriotic statement - no doubt popular during these Revolutionary War days. 1780 saw major engagements in North and South Carolina in which the North Carolina Continental Line was heavily involved. James Davis was the first printer to work in the State of North Carolina, hired by the NC General Assembly in 1749. Davis printed and distributed the State's laws, and also printed other materials including The Journal of the House of Burgesses - also the first book printed in North Carolina. Some of these 25-dollar notes have the denomination spelled out on the reverse like this one, while others have "XXV Dollars" printed. Not long after this note was issued "Continental Currency" would not have been accepted for most transactions. All Continental Currency became basically worthless after the Revolutionary War due to lack of gold and silver assets, including the silver coins promised in the verbiage. North Carolina began printing its own currency later in the 1780's having British denominations of pounds, shillings, and pence to distinguish them from these earlier notes. Ok, that was a shock learning I hit it right on the money literally! I just simply floated my brain onto a fair buying price if I had the opportunity to purchase this item! I was busy for a while again today so just now checking in...

Congrats MrWhatsit on the win.
Bump111, congrats on this one and for sharing the info on this note.
Looks like it's down to five having any chance of taking home the gold (not counting tiebreakers of course.). Good luck to all.
Words of encouragement are one of the major food groups. We need to consume them regularly to thrive and grow.
