Thanks OzLeigh much appreciated. Yes I agree about the coloured coins as stated in a previous post I am not a fan of them either and only bought one for a special occasion but each to their own.

Not a high value or super-impressive coin, but it was in the Venn Diagram overlap of my interest in French / French Colonial coins and nature. New Caledonia 5 Francs 1952. Reverse features the kagu bird, found only in the mountains of New Caledonia. They are listed as endangered on the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species. There are fewer than 1,000 mature individuals estimated in total today.

Nice coin Hondo. Here is a picture of those mountains. I took this while on a cruise in 2011 and also went there again a couple of years later. Of course I made it a priority to grab as many different coins as I could find. :)

Quote: Beautiful, triggersmob! How about showing off a few of those coins? Thanks Hondo. Not much to show really, as I only take a photo of the date side for my records. You can see them here though... http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...p?album=1098The only one not in my gallery is this one... 1983 2 francs.

Bryan, that is a fantastic set - thank you for posting it. I learned more about Australia's military history from reading these cards than I gleaned in all of my 61 years.
