Surprise, surprise, when I opened it there was not a single 2022 MOR in the roll.

Top coin was a 2020 MOR and bottom coin was a 2022 dinosaur coin.

I once had a bag of 500 x $1 coins from the bank that were nearly all uncirculated coins. All Armaguard rolls with 499 uncirculated Geat Australian Coin Hunt series one coins with one circulated 2007 APEC coin.

I also had a bag of $2 coins in Armaguard rolls that were all uncirculated. They were 2020 75th Anniversary coins. I put those into plastic capsules and will probably sell them one day.

In recent times I had a bag of 500 x $1 coins in Armaguard rolls that were a mix of circulated and uncirculated coins. The rolls of uncirculated coins contained a mix of 2020 mob of roos and six different designs from the series one Big Things from 2023 in each roll.

In a lot of mixed rolls that I won in an auction there was one Prosegur roll. It appeared to be uncirculated coins but on opening it there were some uncirculated coins from one year and a few circulated coins from other years.

So, sometimes you get lucky but the bottom line is that security rolls are not always what they might seem to be.

Cotton and Co rolls are a different thing again. Some of you might remember my near miss with a roll of 2013 $2 coronation coins. I bought the roll on ebay from a private seller. When I received it, I opened it to find that the valuable coins had been removed and replaced with junk coins and the end resealed again. I did get a refund. I am now very sceptical about Cotton and Co rolls for sale by private sellers.

I wonder is there any benefit to having your own coins rolled into Cotton and Co wrappers? Is this a good way of storing them? If you intend to sell the coins wouldn't it be better to sell them loose or in capsules or a plastic sleeve? I think the only advantage for a private seller is that they could replace the valuable coins with junk (like what happened to me) if they are hoping to scam someone. What do others think? Has anyone out there bought a Cotton and Co roll from a private seller and opened the roll? What did you find?
